ELECTION RESULTS

Marquette, MINovember 9, 2022 – Voters in Michigan headed to the polls yesterday for the 2022 mid-term election, and here are some of the results we have at this time.

STATEWIDE AND REGIONAL RESULTS:

Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer has won a second term, defeating Republican challenger Tudor Dixon. At last report, with about 85-percent of the votes in, Whitmer has 53-percent of the vote to Dixon’s 45-percent

The statewide races for Attorney General and Secretary of State have not yet been called. Attorney General Dana Nessel is currently leading Matthew DePerno 51-percent to 45-percent, and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson leads Kristina Karamo 54-percent to 43-percent.

The statewide ballot proposals have all passed. Proposal 1, modifying term limits and requiring disclosures of legislators, passed by a margin of 65 to 34-percent. Proposal 2, addressing voting rights, passed by 58-percent to 41-percent, and Proposal 3, protecting reproductive rights, passed by a margin of 55 to 44-percent.

In races closer to home, in the 109th District State House race, which includes Marquette, Alger, Baraga and part of Dickinson Counties, with 99-percent of the votes in, Democrat Jenn Hill has defeated Republican Melody Wagner 53 to 47-percent.

In the 38th District State Senate race, Incumbent Republican Senator Ed McBroom defeated Democrat challenger John Braamse with 62 to 36-percent.

In the 1st District US House of Representatives race with 98-percent of the vote in, incumbent Republican Jack Bergman defeated Democrat challenger Bob Lorinser 59 to 37-percent.

IN MARQUETTE COUNTY:

There were two spots up for a vote on the Marquette City Commission. Incumbents Evan Bonsall and Sally Davis retained their seats with Bonsall taking 5,119 votes and Davis with 4,367 votes.

One position on the Marquette Board of Light & Power went to Margaret Brumm who had 3,485 votes, beating out Tim Strom with 3,359.

Two open seats on the Negaunee City Council went to Dana LaLonde with 1,163 votes and Matt Howard with 876.

In Marquette Township, a Library Millage Renewal seeking 0.888 mill for 2 years to Peter White Public Library for providing library services for residents of Marquette Township
Passed by a count of 1,689 YES to 506 NO.

In Ishpeming Township, a Shared Police Protection Millage request was passed. It requested 1 mill for 10 years for Township police protection, and a second police officer to be shared between Ishpeming Township and the NICE School District. The request passed 1,231 YES to 514 NO

Democrat incumbents on the Marquette County Board of Commissioners held on to their seats yesterday over Republican challengers.

In District 2, Joe Derocha had 3,332 votes to Jacob Kleczka’s 2,513. In District 5, Bill Nordeen had 2,607 to Keith LaCosse with 2,313, and in District 6, Karen Alholm finished with 3,138 over Emily Wright with 2,466. All other Commissioners ran unopposed.
