Marquette, MI – August 4, 2026 – Construction has begun on a major extension of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail in Chocolay Township.
The Lakenenland Extension project will be adding just over 4 miles from the current trail end at Kawbawgam Road to Lakenenland Sculpture Park.
Hendrickson said the project will also include an ADA-accessible parking area, bicycle rack, and interpretive panels highlighting the area’s features and history at the Lakenenland trailhead.
He added that the work is expected to be completed in mid-September.
