
Marquette, MI – August 5,2026 – The tickets are set in multiple races heading into November after yesterday’s primary elections.
In the race for Governor, Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson easily won her primary over Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson. She will face off against Republican U.S. Representative John James who beat businessman Perry Johnson.
In the 1-st Congressional district, on the Republican side of the ticket. Incumbent Congressman Jack Bergman defeated challengers Justin Michel and Matthew Denotter and will face Democrat Callie Barr who defeated Kyle Blomquist and Wayne Stiles.
And in the Republican primary for the 38th District State Senate, State Representative Dave Prestin beat out former State Representative Beau LaFave. Prestin will challenge Democrat Kelli Van Ginhoven this fall.
