No charges will be filed for the Alger Correctional Facility inmate who is accused of the murder of a fellow inmate. Andre Adams has been determined to be chargeable by the Alger County Prosecutor’s Office with the May 31st, 2012 murder of Carlos Love but Adams is currently in prison for life without parole for a 2007 conviction of a first-degree murder, according to officials. The prosecutor’s office is prepared to file charges if there is a change in his prison sentence.
Two suspects will be moving to circuit court for charges connected with the stabbing of a Marquette man. Authories say 19-year-old Danny Weymouth and Taylor Mitchell, both from Ishpeming, got into a fight with Zachary Skinner and then Mitchell stabbed Skinner in the head, leg, and back. Weymouth faces charges of conspiring to deliver controlled substances. Michell has been charged with delivering controlled substances and two counts of felonious assault. Mitchell and Weymouth will be arraigned in circuit court on July 13th.
The state fire marshall is adding his voice to those who strongly urge safety as Michigan residents deal with more powerful fireworks this Fourth Of July. Richard Miller says under the new “Michigan Fireworks Safety Act” consumers 18-years-old and older can now buy and use low level firecrackers, bottle rockets, sky lanterns and roman candles. However, he says those devices cannot be used on any public, school, or private property without permission and there are sanctions in place should carelessness lead to a fire-related incident. The Michigan State Police is again reminding motorists to make safety a priority during their holiday travel this Fourth Of July period. For the 35th consecutive year, troopers are joining other state police and highway patrol agencies in the International Traffic Safety Initiative. State Police Director Colonel Kristie Kibbey Etue says they’ll be cracking down on drivers who are operating under the influence of alcohol, not using proper restraints, or exhibiting distracted or drowsy driving behaviors. The official Fourth Of July holiday period begins at 6 p.m. tonight and runs through midnight on Sunday.
Governor Rick Snyder yesterday signed into law a bill allowing shoreline owners to groom their waterfront property without being required to obtain a permit from the state. Supporters of the bill say it eliminates unnecessary red tape and protects the property rights of owners. Specifically the bill deals with beach maintenance when water levels are lower than normal. It says the owners don’t need a permit to clean vegetation and debris on the beach between the normal high-water mark and the current water level.
