Marquette, MI – September 8, 2026 – Northern Michigan University’s 10th-day enrollment report is showing a decline in overall enrollment at the Marquette school. The report shows the current 10-day enrollment at 6,961 students.
That is down from last year’s 10-day count of 7,386 students, and marks the first drop below 7,000 students enrolled at the university in a few years.
University President Chris Olsen spoke about the results with Mark & Walt in the Morning.
Olsen outlined several factors that contributed to this year’s decrease in overall enrollment, which was anticipated due to changing demographics and other trending factors seen over the last several years in higher education.
Olsen said enrollment is going to be a significant challenge in the years ahead at NMU, but the university will be taking a series of steps to work to meet the challenge.
