Negaunee Miner Boys Defeated By Gladstone Basketball 55-47

Gladstone, MiFebruary 14th, 2023The Negaunee Miner Boys fought hard against Gladstone on Valentine’s Day. Carl Leander Johnson was on the scene for Sunny 101.9

The game started off quickly, Jordan Guinette of Negaunee scored a three-pointer. Guinette scored another three pointer and a single before being sent to the free throw line. Gladstone’s coach called a full timeout to process his seven point lead in less than three minutes. Jordan scored once at the free throw line before Gladstone cut the lead to five. Gladstone reached a run of five before Ty Jacobson retaliated with a three pointer. Gladstone quickly cut the lead back down to four before Negaunee climbed to fourteen. The Miners continued to go back and forth with Gladstone which passed double digits.

The second quarter was fast, Mason Sager scored a three pointer despite Gladstone’s contest. Sager knocked down two free throws as well. Jordan Guinette and Sager scored two pointers shortly after bringing the Miners to a double digit lead. Gladstone cut it down to six shortly after. 26-22

Gladstone scored first in the third quarter with a two-pointer, in an attempt to close the scoring gap. Gavin Downey was sent to the free throw line and scored a single point. Gladstone pulled within one shortly after. Kyle Gibbs of Gladstone took the lead from the free throw line. Sager scored a double bringing the Miners to a score of thirty, but missed both times at the free throw line. Jordan Guinette scored at the free throw line once before a timeout was called. After the timeout, Gladstone had back to back three pointers, stealing the lead. After Gladstone reached an eight point lead, coach Brad Nelson of Negaunee called a timeout. Matthew Peters pulled Gladstone’s lead down to six after the timeout.

Gibbs of Gladstone continued to push forward, bringing Gladstone to their biggest lead of the night with eight. The Miners attempted to fight back but shot cold at the line. Drake Johnson of Gladstone brought them to a lead of ten shortly after. Gladstone continued to climb to a lead of twelve. Evan Gauthier cut the lead back down to ten with less than four minutes left in the ball game. A timeout was called afterwards. Gladstone scored a single point after the break before Gavin Downey scored a three pointer before yet another timeout. Gibbs brought Gladstone back to a lead of ten at the free throw line afterwards. Saunders scored another three pointer bringing Gladstone down to a seven point lead. Gibbs scored again from the free throw line, furthering Gladstone’s lead. Mason Sager scored a three pointer and a single, bringing him to double digits and Gladstone down to a five-point lead. Johnson of Gladstone reached double digits at the free throw line, bringing them back to a lead of six. Sager sank a free throw bringing Gladstone down to five yet again. Evan of Gladstone scored twice at the free throw line, bringing them to a lead of seven. a timeout was called shortly after, no scores were called afterwards. 55-47
