Marquette, MI – October 15, 2019 – If you’re a football fan living in the U.P., there’s a good chance you support either the Green Bay Packers or the Detroit Lions (for the record, I’m a Cheesehead). No matter who you are a fan of, though, there’s no getting around the fact that in the most recent edition of Packers vs. Lions, Detroit was absolutely robbed in the fourth quarter by two horrendous penalties.
Trey Flowers, number 90 for the Honolulu Blue, was flagged twice in the last frame for Illegal Use of Hands – Hands to the Face. Neither time did he actually put his hands anywhere near the Green Bay lineman’s face area. Each penalty gave the Packers a first down, and eventually this led to Green Bay being able to kick a last-second field goal to win the game. As stated before, I’m a Packers fan, and I’m appalled at the quality of officiating that was shown last night.
That said, Lions fans, please do not overreact. There is no conspiracy. There is no corruption. There is no plot against Detroit. It was just plain old bad luck that happened to strike twice in the same quarter, on two near-identical plays. Did it cost your team a win? Maybe. Are the Lions the only team to lose because of a bad call? Far from it.
