Marquette, MI – May 22, 2020 – As the weather has gotten warmer, my brother and I have been doing more work outside to get our backyard ready for the summer. One of the tasks we’ve tackled recently is re-staining our deck. Rather than crawl around on my hands and knees with my paintbrush, I had an idea that I am probably prouder of than I should be.
My love of hockey has led me to keep just about anything related to the sport, and I remembered an old, broken hockey stick that I’ve had in my garage for about 10 years. I got it after an NMU hockey game against Michigan Tech in Houghton, and had kept it tucked away ever since. Now, it was its time to shine.
As you can see in the pictures, it’s not the best craftsmanship, but by sticking the brush handle into the hollow shaft of the stick and adding some tape, I can now stain the deck without having to scuff up my knees. Not too bad!
By the way, shout out to Kyle Follmer, the NMU player who, by breaking his stick on a slapshot attempt almost a decade ago, made this “invention” possible.
