Marquette, Michigan – February 14, 2016 – Northern Michigan University Music Department Head, Robert Engelhart, talked with Todd Paz of the 8th Day about the incredible technology that allows students and the public to enjoy a Valentine Day’s Cinema Presentation of the London Royal Opera and Ballet performance of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) at Jamrich Hall Auditorium today at 5:00 p.m., followed by a pizza social. Engelhart said the audience experience is so well-staged and the technology so good that it is “almost” like being in England at the Royal Opera House.
This very accessible and lighthearted Opera is brought to the Upper Peninsula by Siril Endowment for Musical Arts Event with the goal to expose NMU Students to fine music arts. The opera is presented in Italian with projected subtitles and state-of-the-art visuals and sound in the newly rebuilt Jamrich Hall Auditorium. About two and half hours, the performance will be followed by a pizza social and an opportunity to talk to NMU music faculty about the play.
“A Valentine’s Day treat, David McVicar’s production of Mozart’s brilliant comic opera, starring Erwin Scrott and Anita Hartig with conductor Ivor Bolton,” says the promotional blurb. And the show host of the 8th Day, Todd Paz, also recommends it as an affordable fun time suitable for family or sweethearts.
