Let me introduce you to the newest addition to my toy box: the Wacom Intuos Creative Pen Tablet – it’s a tablet that plugs into your computer and then allows you to move the mouse with the pen, so you can write and draw like you would with a regular pen on paper. Sort of. See, my tablet has taught me several things. Here are the top three:
- Stop looking down. You need to be able to see where you’re going – and you need to be able to see what you’re drawing. You’ll find that by looking up ahead at what’s in front of you, not down by your feet.
- Loosen up. You think you can hold the pen like a normal pen, and just like a normal pen, you need to loosen your grip or your arm will end up on the wrong side of a wrist brace. Especially if you’re working on something for over an hour, which can easily happen if you’re drawing. Sit back, let up on the grip, and relax.
- It’s the little things. Being able to draw with a tablet has expanded my ability to work in detail enormously. I notice things when looking at the bigger picture and I’m able to make little changes that have a huge impact. Details are important, don’t skimp on them!
