Marquette, MI – April 28, 2026 – Today is International Fallen Workers Memorial Day, and a special event remembering fallen workers is happening later today in Ishpeming. The U.P. Regional Labor Federation is hosting the remembrance from Noon to 3:00pm at the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum.
Federation President Adam Saari spoke about the event and the day with Mark & Walt in the Morning.
Saari explained that the day is intended to honor, remember and recognize fallen and injured workers, adding that today’s event will also recognize the Barnes-Hecker Mine Disaster that happened in 1926 near Ishpeming.
Saari said the focus of the event will the history of job site laws and regulations and how they have helped make conditions safer for workers.
