NMU Student Drowning Autopsy ReportMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Northern Michigan University in Marquette has released an update on the investigation into the death of a freshman student on campus last fall.

According to a statement released this morning, accidental drowning has been cited as the cause of death of 18-year-old redshirt soccer player Arianna Alioto of Columbia, Missouri.

The NMU Public Safety and Police Services department says the determination is based on the autopsy report completed by the Marquette County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Alioto had participated in a practice with her teammates in the university pool at the NMU Sports Complex last November 30 and was later found unresponsive in the pool. Director of NMU Public Safety and Police Services, Mike Bath, said the autopsy report did confirm that there was no physical trauma to the body.

However, it did not have any other conclusive findings related to the incident other than that Alioto’s death was due to accidental drowning. Bath says the police incident report is now considered completed.
