Ishpeming, Michigan – October 9th, 2015- It’s Football night in Negaunee. The Undefeated Negaunee Miners traveled to Ishpeming, Michigan tonight to face the undefeated Ishpeming Hematites in a MPC Championship game. Jesse Anderson and Brady Guilbault were there to bring you all the exciting football action on Sunny.FM.
The Ishpeming Hematites received the ball first tonight and marched down the field to start the drive, but on 4th and goal the Negaunee Miners defense shutdown the Hematites. The Ishpeming Hematites defense forced Negaunee 3-0 on their first drive. The Ishpeming Hematites next drive was successful when the Hematites went for it on 4th down to go 17 for a first down. The Hematites were able to convert the third down of the play into a touchdown and after the 2 point conversion led 8-0.
The Ishpeming Hematites had the ball from a punt to start the second quarter of play. The Negaunee Miners were able to stop the drive. Ishpeming punted the ball to the Miners, but the receiver fumbled the ball and Ishpeming raced to the ball to get the fumble. The Negaunee Miners Jeffrey Mathews almost had an interception, but Ishpeming got the touchdown and goes for 2, to lead 16-0. The Negaunee Miners were able to capitalize on the next drive and scored a touchdown and the 2 point conversion to trail 8-16 to end the second quarter.
The Negaunee Miners receive the ball to start the third quarter of the game, but the Hematites forced another 3-0 on the drive. The Hematites hit a fake punt to end their next drive and the Negaunee Miners intercepted to get the ball. The third quarter proved to be a defensive game and the score remained 16-8 in the Ishpeming Hematites favor to end the quarter.
The Negaunee Miners started the fourth quarter with a huge run and the first down started at the 30 yard line. The Miners were able to get another 10 yards on the next play to bring them to first and goal. Negaunee scored the touchdown with a sneak from Brock Aho and makes it 16-14 and after the 2 point conversion tied the Hematites 16-16. The Hematites quickly answered back and scored another touchdown and regained the lead 22-16 and the Hematites 2 point conversion was stopped by the Miners to keep it 22-16. The Negaunee Miners last drive was unsuccessful when the Ishpeming Hematites intercepted a pass to end the game. The Hematites won this game 22-16 over the Negaunee Miners.
