Negaunee, MI – November 30th, 2021 – Negaunee Girls Basketball defeated the visiting Manistique Emeralds on Tuesday night 65-25. Carl Leander Johnson was on the call in Negaunee on Sunny 101.9.
1st Half:
It was the first game for the Miners girl’s basketball team and they came out of the gates hot. Summer Dudo got the first few buckets of the game giving the Miners an quick 4-0 lead. Alyssa Hill was an instant impact on defense with two blocks right away. A transition bucket and a Lilly Nelson three lead to a 9-0 lead over the Emeralds. The Emeralds couldn’t buy a bucket for a long while as the Miner defense was beyond disruptive. Points eventually came when Sarah Mcdaniel drained a three for the Emeralds, cutting the lead to 17-3. Lilly Nelson kept the Miners’ hot streak going with a three. The Miners ended the quarter with a Josie Thomson bucket and a Madison Smith steal leading to an Alyssa Hill bucket.
End of 1st: Negaunee Miners: 22, Manistique Emeralds 8
Emily Gauthier fouled Olivia Kingren to start the second quarter but the lead couldn’t be cut after Kingren missed both free throws.Ella Santi got the rebound off of a Alyssa Hill block and put the ball back up for two points for the Emeralds. The Miners quickly answered with a Josie Thomson three, extending the lead to 27-10. The Emeralds turned the ball over again which lead to the Miners getting a bucket on the other end. Ella Mason got fouled and went one for two from the line, shortening the Emerald’s deficit. The Miners finished their strong first half with a Cooper Atkins bucket.
Halftime: Negaunee Miners: 44, Manistique Emeralds 11

2nd Half:
The Miners started the second half just as strong as the first as Lilly Nelson dished the ball back to a trailing Alyssa Hill for an open two. Gauthier got another bucket just to pile onto the lead for the Miners. The Miners knocked the ball out on an Emerald’s inbound. Brooke St. John put up a shot but got fouled and she went one for two fromthe line. Danielle Lund got fouled by the Miners but couldn’t convert either free throw to shorten the Miner lead. Shelby Prusi hit a three for the Miners followed by another Miner three by Cooper Atkins. Brooke St. Johns was fouled by Cooper Atkins on the other end, Brooke nailed both shots from the line for the Emeralds.
End of 3rd: Negaunee Miners 56, Manistique Emeralds 16

Sarah Mcdaniel got fouled and went fifty percent from the free throw line, cutting the lead to 56-19. It was a crazy possession for Negaunee as Alyssa got 3 offensive boards and then continued to get fouled. Negaunee turned the ball over and Danielle Lund brought the ball up. Lund was fouled by Eliana Juchemich. Lund went one for two, Madison Smith got the board and passed it to Juchemich who brought the ball down court for an and-one.To finish the game, Madison Smith got fouled and knocked down both free throws to bring the final score to 65-25.
