MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Michigan motorists are paying almost 39 cents more for gas this week, the fifth straight week of increases.
‘Triple A Michigan’ reports the current statewide average is just over three-dollars-99-cents per gallon, although motorists will find gas prices at well over $4.00 in many areas. The statewide average is 20 cents more than last year at this time.
The auto club says the surge in prices in the state is largely due to a combination of pipeline and refinery problems in the Great Lakes Region, with prices expected to begin stabilizing later this week.
Michigan’s average price is currently the third highest in the nation, following Hawaii ($4.136) and Illinois ($4.064). Of the cities it surveys, the auto club says the lowest prices in the state are in the Saginaw/Bay City area at about three-dollars-91-cents a gallon.
The highest are in the Marquette area at just over four-dollars-nine cents.
