Marquette, MI – July 14, 2018 – We joined the residents of Negaunee on Iron Street today for the annual Pioneer Days Parade. Organizations from all over the community came out to celebrate the final day of 2018 Pioneer Days with the parade themed, “Our Local Service Organizations- The Heart of Our Community!”
Once again our Sunny.FM crew jumped in to join the parade fun cruising down the streets in our new Sunny Flex! Walt Lindala, Mike Plourde and Alex Baysore were having a fun time in the Sunny Flex with Joe Duckworth and Eric following to show off our Silverado Summer Giveaway grand prize one final time before it’s given away on July 19th. As the Voice of the Miners for over 20 years now, we were proud to be celebrating in Negaunee this afternoon.
While everyone seemed to have a lot of fun with their floats, the MCMCF and Teal Lake Senior Living Center really went all out. The Marquette County Medical Care Facility built a “Heroes” themed float with a walkable fire truck! Tea Lake Senior Living decorated their float with a “Bee Kind” motto, designed to look like bumble bees! It was nice to see Mike Carey out shaking hands today as well as the U.P. royalty, 2018 Mr. U.P. and the Pioneer Princess!
“Bee Kind” was the theme of the Teal Lake Senior Living Center.
Following the parade I went over to Teal Lake to check out the Pioneer Days Community Picnic! The picnic was just started up as people drove into the parking lot to check out the family-fun. Teal Lake Pizzeria and other vendors were set up around the area to offer delicious snacks, new clothes, jewelry, and toys!
Along with the usual annual fun like the bounce house and Elephant Ears, this year the picnic featured award-winning singer singwriter Donald Benjamin! The crowd danced and sang along with the nationally touring CMA artist as he sang some originals and hit covers like “Shake It For Me”.
The picnic goes on all afternoon so stop by, enjoy some music, food, and some time with our community! The annual Negaunee Fireworks Display over Teal Lake starts at dusk. We’ll be out capturing the scene with even more photos!
