Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio) – Upper Peninsula Health Plan is sharing some tips and focusing programs on making sure kids are healthy as they head back to school this fall.

Lindsey Havel, Quality Program Manager with UPHP, joined the Sunny Morning Show today for the latest UPHP Update.

She outlined four tips to optimize back-to-school health of our kids:

1. Be a Partner in your Child’s Education, Wellness, and Health
2. Know the risks your School-Aged Child may face
3. Make Sleep a Priority
4. Focus on Nutrition

Havel said open communication with your child, their health care provider, educators and others, such as coaches, is key in making sure this fall’s return to the classroom is healthy and strong.

She also talked about the “Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures”  joint effort between Upper Peninsula Health Plan and Upper Peninsula Health Group and how it is designed to highlight annual preventative care for kids of all ages.

The initiative runs through August 31st and there will be prizes for the provider practices that can get the most kids through the door as well as drawings for the kids who go in and get the care they need.
