Marquette, MI – April 7, 2026 – On out latest Upper Peninsula Health Plan update, we heard about sexually transmitted infections and their prevention. April is STI Awareness Month and it is a time to focus on health, education, and prevention.
UPHP’s Kristin Williams shared some related information with Mark & Walt in the Morning.
Williams said STI testing is a simple and responsible step that is usually quick, confidential, and available through doctors’ offices, clinics, and local health departments. She added that testing helps people get treatment early if needed and helps protect the health of others, too.
Williams explained that it isn’t about fear or judgment, but rather, it’s about knowledge, confidence, and care to normalize conversations about health and reduce the stigma and build healthier communities.
She shared a final thought that if you have questions, talk with a healthcare professional or visit a local clinic because caring for your health helps care for everyone.
