Marquette, MI October 7, 2025Upper Peninsula Health Plan is getting the word out about some big changes coming to Michigan’s health programs. This as the MI Health Link program is transitioning to MI Coordinated Health starting January 1, 2026.

Jennifer Wieczorek, Business Development Specialist with UPHP, spoke about the changes with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

Wieczorek explained that the change is part of a federal requirement to improve care for people who are enrolled in both Medicare Parts A and B, and who receive full Medicaid.

She said MI Coordinated Health is a new Highly Integrated Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan, known as a HIDE SNP and sometimes referred to as MICH. She added that it combines Medicare and Medicaid benefits into one easy-to-use program, where members will get their medical, dental, vision, hearing, and prescription drugs all in one health plan, using one ID card.

Wieczorek said Upper Peninsula Health Plan’s MI Coordinated Health is a plan that contracts with both Medicare and Michigan Medicaid to provide benefits of both programs to enrollees.

She added that to enroll, you must be 21 or older, have both Medicare Parts A and B, receive full Medicaid benefits, and live in one of the 12 covered UP counties. Most members who have MI Health Link now won’t have to do anything to enroll because they will automatically transfer over to the new plan on January 1st.

Wieczorek said that eligible individuals who aren’t enrolled in MI Health Link now can sign up during the Medicare Advantage annual enrollment period October 15th through December 7th.  They can also talk to their health insurance agent or visit uphp.com to find out more about UPHP MICH.
