
Marquette, MI – April 2, 2025 – On our latest Upper Peninsula Health Plan update, we hear about April as STI Awareness Month.
Williams said the month is intended raise awareness of sexually transmitted infections, reduce stigma about them, and promote safe practices to stay healthy.
She explained that millions of new STIs occur every year and many how no symptoms, meaning people can unknowingly spread infections, and if left untreated, they can lead to serious health complications.
Williams said some good tips include getting tested regularly, practicing safe sex, talking openly with your partners and health care providers and knowing your status to help prevent the spread.
She added that STI Awareness Month is a reminder to get tested, talk about protection, and make informed, healthy choices.
