Marquette, MIJanuary 7, 2025 – On our latest Upper Peninsula Health Plan Update, we heard from Clinical Coordinator Adele Price about the importance of oral health and preventative dental care for children and adults.

Price shared some good tips with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

She said that we keep our teeth for our lifetime and so it’s very important to start at an early age to learn habits to maintain a healthy mouth and strong teeth.

Price explained that oral health can affect our ability to eat, speak, and even smile, adding that our oral health can affect our overall  health and, conversely, our overall health can affect our oral health.

She outlined several tips for maintaining good oral health for all ages, including brushing teeth thoroughly twice a day as well as flossing daily in between teeth, using fluoride toothpaste as well as drinking fluoridated water on a daily basis.

Price said for adults, it’s also a good idea to not use any tobacco products, limit drinking alcoholic drinks, and most importantly, visit your dentist at least once a year.

She encouraged everyone to follow UPHP on social media for more information and for UPHP members to contact customer service at 1-800-835-2556 if there are questions or for help finding a dental care provider.
