Frederickson explained that National HIV Testing Day is June 27, 2024 and is intended to encourage people to get tested for HIV, know their status, and get linked to care and treatment.
She added that it was first observed on June 27, 1995 and the CDC recommends everyone aged 13-64 test at least once. People with higher risk factors should test more often.
Williams said that PrEP is a medication to help to reduce the spread of HIV. It stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis and is a prescription medicine that can be used to reduce a person’s chances of getting HIV.
They added that if someone is interested in learning more, they should reach out to their healthcare provider or local health department. People can also call the County Health Department (906) 475-7651, or UPHP at 1-800-835-2556.
