Marquette, MI – October 18, 2023 – A peer-based support group, the Central U.P. Critical Incident Stress Management Team, is continuing their efforts to help first responders in the Central U.P. deal with the trauma and stress of their work.
Team members Kristie Buruse and Susan Andary spoke about the effort with Mark & Walt in the Morning.
Buruse explained that the Central U.P. CISM Team is a community of peers working to assist first responders such as Law Enforcement, EMS, Firefighters, Corrections Officers, Dispatch Operators with the psychological damages associated with experiencing critical incidents.
Andary said first responders are on the front lines in highly stressful and risky calls and their work can often leave them without enough time to recover between traumatic incidents.
They added that the team serves and supports first responders in Marquette and Alger counties, with support also offered to Delta and Luce County.
There is also a special fundraising partnership for the CISM team with Be Inspired jewelry, featuring special pieces that will benefit the team’s efforts.
