Marquette, MIJuly 26, 2023 – On our latest update with Active Physical Therapy, we heard some important information about helping newborns and toddlers develop healthy neck, arm, upper body and core muscles.

Elizabeth Althouse, with active Physical Therapy’s Ishpeming location, spoke about tummy time for babies with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

Althouse explained about the importance of babies getting used to being on their stomachs as they lay on a parent’s chest, the floor, bed or changing table.

She said the recommendations is to try to do it 1-2 minutes at a time with a goal of 15 to 30 minutes daily.

Althouse added that the main reason to make tummy time for babies is to help the baby develop their neck and head muscles and give them strength in their midsection and arms as they begin to crawl and eventually walk.
