Marquette, MISeptember 1, 2021Northern Michigan University’s School of Nursing has started an animal therapy program this fall, and five nursing faculty received a grant to start the program.

Dr. Michelle Andriacchi and Dr. Anne Stein with the NMU School of Nursing spoke about the program today with Mark & Walt in the Morning for Wildcat Wednesday.

They explained that six dogs were trained to become NMU therapy dogs, called “The Wildpups.”

Joining them today were two of the pups, Fonzie, a Siberian Husky, and Ramsey, and Australian Shepherd.

A series of events are being held this fall where students, faculty, and staff can visit the dogs and research is being done via a survey to see the impact animal therapy has on a college campus.

You can send an email to animaltherapy@nmu.edu for more information about the project and to get involved.
