Negaunee, MI – January 15,2020 – The Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball team welcomed arch-rival Ishpeming to Negaunee as the Miners looked to stay perfect on the season, following a 7-0 start to the year. The Miners would have their wish granted as they blew out Ishpeming, 62-27.
The first quarter was a slow start as both sides struggled early on. Jason Waterman was able to scare an and-one on the first possession of the game to give the Miners a quick 3-0 lead, but that would be there only bucket until four minutes to go in the first. Ishpeming however would be held scoreless from the field and only mustard two free-throws, 9-2 Negaunee after one.
Negaunee would extend their lead early in the second, it was a team effort as five different players scored for the Miners in the first three minutes. Ishpeming would get their first field-goal a minute into the second, but the Negaunee blitzkrieg would be too much, 23-6 with four minutes left in the second and the lead would hit 25 at half, 35-10 Negaunee.
Leading scorer for Negaunee was Jason Waterman with 13, Gavin Argall lead Ishpeming with six.
The third would only see five baskets in the first six minutes, only ten total shots were made in the quarter, 47-18 Negaunee.
From there, the reserves would come in for Negaunee to play most of the fourth as the Miners would coast to the victory, 62-27. Head Coach Dan Waterman says he saw a lot of room for improvement and is excited to be off until Monday the 15th after playing three games in seven days. Waterman says the Miners best game has yet to come, “They have another gear” he told Jesse Anderson on Sunny 101.9. “Lots to be happy about, a lot to work on.
