Negaunee, MI – September 25, 2026 – This Homecoming is officially one to remember for Negaunee High School Football! After a tough loss on the road against the Kingsford Flivvers last week, the Negaunee Miners returned home tonight to take on the Hancock Bulldogs. With Hancock coming into the matchup with three victories already under their belt, this was no small challenge for the Miners. Negaunee was looking to bounce back, defend their home turf, and bring some serious energy to Homecoming night. Carl Nelson and Brad Saatio were on the call tonight, bringing every moment of the action live to listeners on Sunny 101.9!
First Half:
This felt like a revenge game for Negaunee Highschool Football. After two tough losses in a row, the Miners came into tonight ready to prove they still had plenty of fight left in them. And they came out FAST. Negaunee started strong, picking up a first down in just six plays and showing some serious hustle on offense. The Miners quickly pushed the ball deep into Hancock territory, with Mason Swenor and Kyle Waterman making a big play to move Negaunee down the field. Then came the connection. Swenor got the ball moving, and the Miners found Kyle Waterman, who made a patient play and helped set up Negaunee’s first score of the night. 7-0, Negaunee!
The Miners weren’t letting up.
One of the biggest plays of the first half came when Evan DellAngelo made an incredible block punt run. Negaunee’s defense and special teams were absolutely bringing the heat, and the Miners were showing that they came into this Homecoming matchup ready to play. Only eight minutes into the game, Negaunee had already found its confidence again. And the scoreboard kept climbing. The Miners pushed their lead to 24-0, combining for a beautiful play that helped keep the momentum rolling. By the end of the first half, Negaunee had completely taken control, extending the lead to 32-0 play by Ty Neime. What a bounce back.
And Negaunee wasn’t finished yet.
The Miners continued keeping Hancock out of the end zone, and Waylonn Harvala. delivered one of the biggest plays of the night with a touchdown run of more than half the field!.He was untouched the entire way, staying right along the boundaries as he took it to the house. 38-0, Miners! Kyle Waterman and the Negaunee offense continued looking for more, and another successful 2 point play before halftime pushed the score to 40-0.
Second Half
Coming out of halftime with a 40-0 lead, Negaunee wasn’t giving Hancock any room to make a comeback. The third quarter became a defensive battle, with neither team adding any points. The Miners continued holding strong and protecting their massive lead. Heading into the fourth quarter, the score remained:
Negaunee 40 – Hancock 0.
And the Miners weren’t giving up control. Negaunee High School Football continued to dominate defensively through the final quarter, keeping Hancock out of the end zone and holding onto the shutout until the very end.

What a way to bounce back.
After a tough road loss last week, Negaunee High School Football came home for Homecoming and responded with a statement of their own. The Miners came out with fire in their cleats, controlled the game from the start, and never let up.
