KINGSFORD, MI — September 18, 2026 — It was another night on the road for Negaunee Highschool Football, as the Miners traveled to Kingsford to take on the Flivvers at their home stadium. The Miners had a tough challenge ahead of them, and Kingsford came out ready to make their home field count. Carl Nelson and Brad Saatio were on the call tonight, bringing every moment of the action live to listeners on Sunny 101.9!
First Half
Kyle Waterman and Juchemich, along with the Negaunee linebackers and edge defenders, were working hard to hold the line as the Miners closed in on Flivver territory. So, who got the first one tonight? The Flivvers. Negaunee held strong for much of the first quarter, but Kingsford found a way to break through. The Flivvers used the run to get the Miners out of position and found the end zone for not just one but two touchdowns of the night.
To make things even tougher, Negaunee was struggling to get a positive possession going. The Miners needed to settle in and find their rhythm. Then, a Flivver player got into Kyle Waterman’s blind spot, and Negaunee lost possession again in the second quarter. A tough break for Negaunee Highschool Football, but there was still plenty of football left to play.
Finally, the Miners got on the board! Cole Prusi connected with Kyle Waterman for Negaunee’s first touchdown of the night. The Miners were finally finding some momentum, cutting the Kingsford lead to 14-6. Negaunee had a chance to tie things up, but Kingsford answered with another touchdown. The Miners weren’t going to let that stop them, though. They managed to put together a two-point play before halftime, bringing the score to 14-8. The Miners had work to do, but they were still in this game.
Second Half
Coming out of halftime, the Flivvers extended their lead to 20-8, then added the extra point to make it 21-8. Things weren’t looking easy for Negaunee Highschool Football, but this Miners team had not lost momentum. They needed two scores to completely flip the game, and there was still time on the clock. And then, the comeback started.
BACK TO A ONE-SCORE GAME!
Negaunee battled their way back to 21-16, and suddenly the Miners had the Flivvers feeling the pressure. So who drove that score? Mason Sandy. Sandy made some of the biggest plays of the night, showing his leadership when the Miners needed it most. Negaunee was right back in the game, and things were heating up. This was one of the biggest possessions of the game so far. Negaunee Highschool Football needed to drive with urgency, but the Flivvers’ defense was strong and completely locked in.
One second added to the board.
One second.
That’s all the Miners had left.
Negaunee got one final shot with a Hail Mary, but the Flivvers held on, and the Miners couldn’t get another down.
The Final Score: Kingsford 21 – Negaunee 16.
It was a tough ending for the Miners, especially after fighting their way back from a 21-8 deficit. But Negaunee Highschool Football never gave up and kept pushing all the way until that final second. Being on the road week after week can definitely wear a team down, but tonight showed that the Miners still have plenty of fight left in them.
