3rd Quarter: Miners bring out their full court press to start off the third period. Mason opens the scoring for the second half by draining a perfect 3 pointer and extending the Negaunee lead back up to double digits. The full court press does its job as Gwinn’s offense could only muster 1 point in the quarters first 4 minutes. Hill gives Negaunee’s biggest lead of the night at 13 by draining a jump shot off the shoulder. Modeltowner Lena Pleaugh responds by taking the inbound pass and easily runs past the full court press for an easy layup, cutting the Miner lead down at 30-19.
After a Negaunee timeout, the Miners offense picks up the tempo by passing the ball and creating space for Nelson to drain a 3 pointer. With 2 minutes left in the quarter, Hill cleans up an offensive rebound and picks up a shooting foul, making the free throws. On the next offensive possession, Mason dribbles up and makes a quick jump shot taking the Miner lead to 39-20. Gwinn’s offensive struggles would catch up to them as they could not generate enough points to keep up with the Miners. By the end of the third quarter, the Miners led by 21.
End of 3rd: Negaunee 41, Gwinn 20
4th Quarter: Negaunee Miners looked to put the game away as Dudo drives to the lane picking up a shooting foul and making both free throws. Dudo again causes a turnover on the defensive side, taking the fast break down the court and making a quick jump shot. Dudo on the next offensive possession goes for the juggler hitting a perfect 3-pointer, extending the lead to 28 points, and leaving Gwinn no hope to attempt a comeback.
Negaunee would pull their starters with 4 minutes left in the game signaling the victory and giving their bench players some precious playing time. Eliana Juchemich hits a 3-pointer to get her first points of the night and keeps the Miner lead over 30 points. Negaunee’s Cooper Atkins would also get on the score sheet by making a pair of bonus free throws. Standerford adds to her point total with Atkins dribbling through traffic and assisting Standerford with an easy basket shot. Negaunee closes the game with no issues and looks to finish the regular season on a high note next week against Marquette.
