Negaunee, MI – February 1st, 2022 – The Negaunee Miners girls basketball team hosted the Gladstone Braves. They beat the Braves handily 64-32 and improve their record to 12-4. Carl Leander Johnson had the call live on Sunny 101.9!

1st Quarter: Negaunee opens the game by winning the tip-off. Ella Mason dishes the ball to Alyssa Hill down in the paint and Hill puts it in for the games first points. The Miners would go on a 11-2 run with Mason and Hill leading the way. Gladstone put an stop to the bleeding with 2 minutes left in the quarter by scoring a tough shot in the paint. However, Hill would assert her will on the offensive side of the ball scoring 9 points in the period. Ella Mason had two 3-pointers and a jump shot in the quarter giving her 8 points. Negaunee goes into the second quarter with a comfortable 13 point lead.
End of 1st: Negaunee 19, Gladstone 6
2nd Quarter: Looking to stay red hot, Mason quickly fires two 3-pointer at the start of the period and swishes both of them. Much like the first quarter, the Miners go on a 10-0 run with all the points coming from Mason and Hill. Madison Smith would get involved in the action by sinking a 3-pointer from the corner. Cooper Atkins flashed her dribbling skills by driving into the lane and going behind the back to lay it up in the basket. The Braves would keep their head down and stay aggressive in the quarters final 4 minutes. They were able to cut the lead to 15 after Negaunee had a 23 point lead at one point in the period.
End of 2nd: Negaunee 36, Gladstone 21

3rd Quarter: Lily Nelson opens up her night and the quarter by shooting a 3-pointer in the corner. Hill faked a screen pass, gets the defenders moving off of her, and drives the open lane for a layup. Gladstone would answer both scoring attempts by the Miners with a field goal and 3-pointer of their own keeping the Miners lead to 15. Ella Mason would get to 20 points for the night by hitting a jump shot off an inbound pass. Emily Gauthier scores an amazing buzzer beater 3-point shot while being smothered by defenders and giving Negaunee a 24 points lead to the games last quarter.
End of 3rd: Negaunee 52, Gladstone 28
4th Quarter: Negaunee’s junior guard Atkins opens the quarter by driving into the lane and making a tough shot in the paint. Hill would recieve the ball in the paint and score an easy shot, making the Miners pull their starters with just under 5 minutes to go, signaling the game was theirs. Negaunee would not have any trouble closing the game out as Gladstone could not take advantage of the line change. Mason would have a career-high 20 points, Hill would come away with 17 points and Gauthier would also have a double digit scoring night with 11 points.
End of Game: Negaunee 64, Gladstone 32

The Joe Boogren Player of the Game was awarded to Ella Mason.
