Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball Team Beat the Iron Mountain Mountaineers 61-30 on the Road on Sunny 101.9!

Iron Mountain, MIJanuary 13th, 2022 – The Negaunee Miners girls basketball team traveled to face the Iron Mountain Mountaineers and came away with the victory beating them 61-30. The call was made live on Sunny 101.9!

1st Quarter: Iron Mountain Mountaineers opened up the scoring with Chloe Maycroft making a drive and layup. The Miners would answer by Ella Mason driving and picking up a shooting foul. She would make her first free throw but miss the second. Emily Gauthier got the offensive rebound and puts it in to put the Miners up 3-2. Summer Dudo would contribute early by stealing the ball leading to Dudo getting the ball down in the paint for a made shot. The quarter would end with both teams evenly matched.

End of 1st Quarter: Negaunee Miners 8, Iron Mountain Mountaineers 9

2nd Quarter: Alyssa Hill starts off her night and the second quarter by getting the ball in the paint and scoring. Iron Mountain responds with a 3-pointer by Emma Ellis evening the score at 12. From there, Negaunee’s defense pick up and the Miners were able to go on a 12-2 run. Emily Gauthier started the run by making a tight shot in the paint. Ella Mason closed the quarter with a nice jump shot that would have been a 3-pointer but her foot was on the line.

3rd Quarter: Iron Mountain looked to step up their game out of halftime. Callie Bianco drives into the paint and makes tough layup. Annslee Runsat then puts up a 3-pointer for the Mountaineers to cut Negaunee’s lead to only 3. With 6 minutes left to go in the period, the Miners decided they wanted to put the game away for good. Negaunee went on a 31-1 run to completely take control of the game. Summer Dudo started the run with a crazy drive, layup, and a shooting foul. Madison Smith had a 3-pointer and few key steals that led to points for Negaunee. Mason on two seperate occasions would make a driving layup and then steal the immediate inbound pass to shoot and make the ball again. After the third period, the Miners set their sight for a third straight win.

4th Quarter: Negaunee, with full control over the game, slowed everything up to focus on their lead and time management. Cooper Atkins had an impressive spin move jump shot that went in while drawing a foul. Josie Thompson got on the board by driving in and making a layup shot. Tessa Standerford also got a piece of the action by making 2 bonus free throws. From there the Miners closed the game out 61-30.
