Manistique, MI – February 28th, 2019 – The Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball team went on the road for their final regular season game, as they traveled to Manistique to take on the Emeralds! Jesse Anderson had all of the great action from Manistique on Sunny 101.9FM.
1st Half:
Negaunee started off strong, as they took an early 4-0 lead over Manistique. The Emeralds responded quickly, and the game was tied at 4 a piece with just over five minutes remaining in the first quarter. This game was a battle early, the Emeralds were giving the Miners all they could handle. Negaunee started to pick their intensity up, and went a big run in the late stages of the first quarter to take a double digit lead. The Miners had a strong end to the opening quarter, as they led 20-6 over the Emeralds.
End of 1st: Negaunee Miners 20, Manistique Emeralds 6
Negaunee came out in a zone defense to start the second quarter, they were changing up looks defensively. The quarter started off slow for both teams offensively, neither team could get anything going. The Miners would go on another run, as they extended their lead to 18 points. Negaunee really took control of the game, as they led 30-8 late in the second quarter. After a great half of basketball by the Miners, they led the Emeralds at halftime by a score of 30-8

2nd Half:
The second half got off to a slow start, as the Miners led 31-10 with just over five minutes left in the third quarter. Negaunee took a 33-11 lead, as both teams were struggling on offense. Both teams traded baskets, and the Miners led 37-13 with three minutes remaining in the third quarter. Manistique didn’t give up, as they were making Negaunee work for every basket. After a tightly contested third quarter, the Miners led 40-16 heading into the final quarter of play.
End of 3rd: Negaunee Miners 40, Manistique Emeralds 16
Negaunee started off the fourth quarter with a basket, they had a 26 point lead. The Miners continued to play excellent defense on the Emeralds, as they led 44-16 with five minutes to go. Negaunee would keep the momentum rolling, their lead went up to 34 points. The Miners had a tough start early, but they bounced back to control most of the game. Negaunee defeated Manistique by a score of 53-21 to end their regular season on a high note.
