Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball defeats the Gladstone Braves 49-33 on Sunny 101.9FM

Gladstone, MI February 13th, 2019 – The Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball team took the court on Wednesday night, as they traveled to Gladstone to take on the Braves. Jesse Anderson had the call for all of the great action between the Miners and Braves on Sunny 101.9FM!

1st Half:

The Miners would start off the scoring, as they led 2-0 over the Braves early. Negaunee would keep the momentum going, as they quickly extended their lead to 6-0. Both teams began to trade baskets, and Negaunee led 8-4 with just over three minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Miners had a great start to the game in this first quarter, as they took a 14-6 lead. The pace was very fast in this first quarter, as this was Gladstone’s style, but Negaunee was playing right with them. After trading baskets once again, a late Miners basket gave them an 18-10 lead after one quarter of play.

End of 1st: Negaunee Miners 18, Gladstone Braves 10               

The pace didn’t slow down to begin the second quarter, as Negaunee led 21-12 in the first minute of the quarter. Gladstone found themselves trailing 25-12 with three minutes to go in the first half, and they were getting all they could handle. A Miners’ three-pointer extended their lead to 28-13, they were running great offense.  The scoring was limited in the last few minutes of the second quarter, but a late Negaunee jumper put them up 32-13 at halftime. It was a tremendous half of basketball by the Negaunee Miners.

2nd Half:

Both teams came out scoring once again, but the Miners went on a run to take a 39-15 lead. The scoring would slow down a bit, but a Braves three-pointer cut the lead down to 39-20 with four minutes left in the third quarter. Gladstone went to full-court pressure on defense, as they were trying to get back in this game. Once again, the game hit a lull in scoring, as both teams couldn’t get much going in the last few minutes. However, Negaunee would hit a jump-shot in the last couple seconds of the quarter, and the Miners had a 41-20 lead after three quarters of play.

End of 3rd: Negaunee Miners 41, Gladstone Braves 20                     

The Miners started off the fourth quarter right where they left off, as they led 46-22. Both teams traded baskets once more, but this favored Negaunee of course with their big lead. Gladstone started to get hot in the fourth quarter, as they quickly cut Negaunee’s lead to 49-31. The Braves were trying to make things interesting, their defensive pressure was getting to the Miners. Negaunee was playing a bit sloppy in the fourth quarter, but nonetheless they led by 16 with just over a minute to go. Gladstone just let the Miners run out the clock in the final seconds, and behind a great first half, the Miners cruised to a 49-33 road win over the Gladstone Braves

Final Score: Negaunee Miners 49, Gladstone Braves 33
