The Wykons found their bigs in foul trouble early, but nonetheless fought hard against the undefeated Miners. The opening quarter was a great battle between two good teams and Negaunee took a 12-11 lead into the second quarter. The defense picked up for the Wykons in the second quarter, as Negaunee had a hard time scoring. The Miners switched to a full court press rather than their normal man-to-man look. Negaunee struggled to capitalize off of the Wykons’ half court turnovers, and found themselves trailing by four points. Negaunee would only score three points in the second quarter, as the Wykons’ impressive defense helped them build up a six point, 21-15 halftime lead.

buzzer brought their lead to 40-26 heading into the fourth. The Miners started off the fourth quarter strong as they scored five straight points to cut the lead back to nine. The teams continued to trade baskets and shooting fouls, and the lead would remain nine points for West Iron County with five minutes to play. The Miners continued to bring full court pressure, but the Wykons kept doing an exceptional job of breaking the press. Negaunee put together a better result offensively, as they began to get in a groove. West Iron County kept responding however, as they were now up by 10, now playing the foul game in the last few minutes. Negaunee kept fighting, but their cold stretch in the second quarter and start of the third was too costly. The Wykons would hand the Miners their first loss of the season by a score of 53-42.
