Negaunee, Michigan – November 30, 2018– The Negaunee Miners faced the Iron Mountain Mountaineers Friday night in Negaunee. The Miners ended up losing to the Mountaineers 50-41 in their second game of the season. Announcer Jesse Anderson was there to bring all of the action live to 101.9 SunnyFM.
The first quarter started with Iron Mountain winning the tip-off. The action began with an Iron Mountain foul. The entire quarter remained close, with each team going back and forth with the lead. With about three minutes left, the Miners gained the 6-4 lead, and kept the momentum going after that, eventually gaining a 10-8 lead. However, just before the buzzer, Iron Mountain came back to end the quarter with a 10-10 tie.
Negaunee had possession of the ball to kick off the second quarter. The Miners scored another basket almost immediately, bringing the score to 12-10 in favor of Negaunee. They gained momentum and kept it going, eventually gaining a 22-14 lead with about four minutes left to go in the quarter. Iron Mountain scored a few scattered baskets, but Negaunee was able to keep the lead, 23-16, due to their great defense, as the first half of play came to an end.
The third quarter started off on a positive note, with the Miners in the lead with barely any fouls. However, with about 6:21 left to go in the third, the Mountaineers tied the game at 23-23. They eventually gained a three-point lead at 23-26, but Negaunee’s Drew DuShane came back to tie the game up at 26-26. Iron Mountain soon gained the lead right back, and it seemed to stay mostly in their possession for the rest of the quarter. The quarter ended with an Iron Mountain lead of 32-29.
Negaunee had the ball to start off the fourth quarter, but they just weren’t able to get the lead back for long. Fouls and free throws went back and forth between the teams, but it wasn’t enough for the Miners. Iron Mountain went on to win the game 50-41, in a game that was a close battle until the very end.
The Negaunee Miners’ next game is on Tuesday, November 4, 2018, against the Escanaba Eskymos in Escanaba at 7:30 pm. This broadcast will be of the Negaunee Girls Varsity team.
