Manistique, MichiganThursday, September 13th, 2018 – It was beautiful night for some football as The Negaunee Miners JV team traveled to Manistique Thursday night where they took down the Manistique Emeralds 48-14. Mark Evans and Gregg Nelson were at the Arthur F. Hall Stadium in Manistique to bring all of the action live to 101.9 SunnyFM.

The first quarter started with an Emerald kick to the Miners. Negaunee’s Lukas Nelson immediately scored on the first drive, however a flag was thrown, costing the Miners both the touchdown and a five-yard penalty. That didn’t seem to phase the Miners as Negaunee’s Nash Hillier then went in for the touchdown on a 28-yard drive. The Miners got the two-point conversion, ending the first quarter with an 8-0 lead over the Emeralds.

The second quarter started off a little slow. With about 9:52 left to go, Negaunee fumbled the ball and Manistique recovered the fumble, bringing the ball into Emerald possession. Negaunee’s Lukas Nelson once again made some magic happen by immediately intercepting the Manistique throw. Negaunee’s William Luke then went on to score another touchdown for the Miners, and the two-point conversion was good, bringing the Miners to a 16-0 lead. With less than a minute left of the quarter, Negaunee’s Lukas Nelson went on to score another touchdown. The Miners conversion was good again, bringing the score to 24-0 in favor of the Miners. Shortly after, Manistique’s Dan Michalik responded by scoring a 78-yard touchdown, their first of the night, bringing the score to 24-6 with Negaunee leading into halftime.

The third quarter started off quickly with Negaunee’s Lukas Nelson scoring yet another touchdown. The conversion was good, bringing the score to 32-6, with Negaunee in the lead. Shortly after that, Negaunee’s Ayden Johnson went on to score his first touchdown of the night. The two point conversion on that was good, bringing the Miners to a 40-6 lead. In response to Johnson’s touchdown, Manistique’s Mason Miller went on to score his first touchdown of the night, with which the conversion was good, bringing the score to 40-12 with the Miners still leading.

In the fourth quarter, the Emeralds got back on the board with a touchdown by Mason Miller. The conversion was good, bringing the score to 40-12 with the Miners in the lead. Negaunee’s Carter Adams responded by scoring his first touchdown, a 77-yard drive and also the last touchdown of the game. Again the conversion was good, bringing the score to a Miners to a win of 48-14!

The Negaunee Miners next game is on Friday, September 21st, 2018 against the Ishpeming Hematites at 7 p.m. in Ishpeming. Join Mark Evans and Gregg Nelson for all of the can’t-miss action!
