Negaunee, Michigan– 02/16/2018– The Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball team stayed home this Friday night to take on the Westwood Patriots. The Miners were a perfect 18-0 coming into this game while the Patriots were 12-5. Brady Guilbault and Jesse Anderson brought you all of the action on Sunny FM.
The Patriots won the tip-off. It was senior night in Negaunee and the Miners had an all senior starting line-up to start off the game. There was a lot of fast play coming out of the seniors for the Miners right away and that really set the tone for the rest of the game to follow. Jenna Sager scored the first 3 points of the game for Negaunee. The Miners were shooting great in the first quarter as well. Lynsee Dempsey had great Defense against the Patriots. All of the starting five for Negaunee scored in the first while the Patriots only scored 2 points by Madelyn Koski. 13-2 was the score at the end of the first. Marissa Carello scored the first two points for the Patriots in the second quarter but Natalie Bartle quickly stole the ball and passed it to Ally Jacobson to score for the Miners. Natalie Bartle did get her second foul during the second quarter as the Patriots were trying their best to foul her out of the game. 28-11 was the score at half-time as the Miners led the Patriots and Brady and Jesse agreed that it was the best first half the Miners had played… Ever!

To start off the second half of the game, Clara Johnson scored a really deep 3 for the Miners. Natalie Bartle received her fourth foul in the fourth quarter. Brady and Jesse had remarked that this game was just full of competitive, passionate basketball. MacKenzie Karkie, Clara Johnson, and Chloe Norman all scored for the Miners before the end of the third. 39-21 was the score at the end of the third as the Miners kept their lead. In the fourth, it looked like the Patriots game plan had changed as they were in-bounding hard to try to get fouls on as many of the Miners as they could so they could get into the double-bonus and close the score deficit. The Patriots were able to foul enough Miners and get into the double-bonus and that really helped them out towards the end of the game. To round off the end of the game, Coach put the starting five back out on the floor for Negaunee. 50-33 was the score at the end of the game as the Miners remain victorious and move to a perfect 19-0 on the season. Coach had said that the defense was the story of the game for the Miners and that the starting line-up did a really great job to set the tone for the rest of the girls.
