Negaunee, Michigan02/12/2018– Negaunee Miners Hockey stayed home this Monday night to take on the L’Anse Purple Hornets. The Miners came into this game 2-18 while the Purple Hornets were 2-6. Tyler Young brought you all of the action on Sunny FM.

It was an exciting first period of play for the Negaunee Miners. The Ref. dropped the puck and Negaunee won the draw back to their own zone. Preston Maki had a good save for the Miners and the defense cleared the puck out of their zone. Jack Mattias scored the opening goal for the Miners. Garrett Mann followed after Jack with the second goal of the night for the Miners after Trent Sweeney gave him an amazing set-up. Foster Miller of the Purple Hornets had a lot of pressure the the Miners to deal with. Ander Sorensen, Miner, broke his stick on a hard slap- that was a really great slap- but it was aimed at the goal tenders chest. Offense was great for the Miners in the first period as they had 16 shots. The Purple Hornets had 6 shots. 2-0 was the score as the Miners led the Purple Hornets.

The net the Purple Hornets were defending came off for the fourth time of the night in the second period. The faulty net was really preventing scoring opportunities for both teams. Cooper Lindemann took a shot that went off his team mate’s chest, Jonathan Mantila, and Jonathan Mantila got the goal for the Purple Hornets. The Miners controlled most of the play up until the last five minutes as the Purple Hornets put on a lot of pressure. Negaunee had 17 shots at the end of the second period while L’Anse had 10 shots. 2-1 was the score as the Miners led the Purple Hornets.

A few minutes into the third period, Jonathan Mantila scored his second goal of the night for the Purple Hornets. Garrett Mann scored his first goal of the night for the Miners. Trent Sweeney set-up the play for Garrett Mann and Garrett scored his second goal of the night for Negaunee. Ander Sorensen back-handed the puck and scored a goal for the Miners. Garret Mann scored his third goal of the night for Negaunee over the sprawling Craig Mantila. Towards the end of the game, Chad Pohlman scored the seventh point for the Negaunee Miners. The Miners had around 54 shots through out the game while the Purple Hornets only had around 21. 7-2 was the final score as the Miners took the win over the Purple Hornets.
