
Ishpeming, Michigan– 02/09/2018– The Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball team traveled to Ishpeming this Friday night to take on the Hematites. The Miners Boys came into this game a 6-9 while the Hematites were 13-12. Jesse Anderson and Brady Guilbault brought you all of this game’s play-by-play action on Sunny FM and streamed LIVE at sunny.fm.
The Hematites won the tip-off and they scored the first three points to start off the game. Jason Waterman scored the first two points for the Miners and Drew DuShane scored a nice three pointer to take the lead back from Ishpeming. The ball went back and forth in the first quarter and after tying the score multiple times, the Miners kept the lead. At the end of one, 19-12 was the score as the Miners led the Hematites. Brady said during the second quarter that this game was a really good fast-paced, high intensity game. Both teams battled each other and at half-time the Miners led the Hematites 30-24. Jason Waterman led the scoring for the Miners with 10 points and 4 rebounds. Luke Skewis followed closely behind him with 7 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist.

The Hematites had possession to start off the second half. Jaden Tucker of the Hematites brought the Hematites closer to taking the lead during the third. Drew DuShane shot and made his basket for the Miners towards the end of the third to make it a ten point game with the Miners in the lead. 45-35 was the score at the end of three. Both Darius Yohe and Dondre Yohe fouled out of the game in the fourth quarter. Negaunee also went into a double bonus and that definitely helped at the end of the game. It looked like it was going to be a Hematite game until Jason Waterman made his shot and gave Negaunee the lead by one point. After that, all it took was the last minute of the game and some free-throws to get the Negaunee Miners the win in this game. 57-50 was the score as the Miners stunned the Hematites. Brady had said to Coach Waterman that with this win for the Miners, it was will be amazing to see the potential that the young Miners team has for the rest of the season and the future. Coach was really proud of his team and said it was a really rewarding night for all of them.

STATS: Jason Waterman led the scoring for the Miners with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Jakson Sager followed behind him with 12 points, 1 rebound, 3 steals and 4 assists. Luke Skewis (4 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist) and Jacob Ennett (5 rebounds) both had 9 points. Drew DuShane had 7 points with 4 rebounds and 1 assist. Scoring 2 points was Luke Mattson (1 steal, both of his points were free-throws) and Drew Lindberg (1 rebound and 1 assist).

** The next Miners game will be Saturday, February 10th as the Girls travel to Ishpeming to take on the Hematites. That game will be earlier in the day with a pre-game around 3pm and the tip-off at 3:30pm. The next Boys game will be next week Thursday, February 15th as the Boys travel to Westwood to take on the Patriots. The pre-game for the Boys game will be around 6:50pm as the tip-off is at 7:20pm.
