Iron Mountain, Michigan02/08/2018–  The Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball team traveled to Iron Mountain this Thursday night as they took on the Mountaineers. The girls came into this game a perfect 15-0, while the Mountaineers were 3-13. Brady Guilbault and Jesse Anderson brought you all of the play-by-play action on Sunny.FM.

The Mountaineers won the tip-off to start off the game but Natalie Bartle, Miner, scored the first two points. It was a slow first quarter for the Miners as the Mountaineers were able to get to the paint a little too easily. Thankfully, the Mountaineers weren’t making many shots when they got there. After a lot of free-throws, the score was 10-8 at the end of one as the Miners led the Mountaineers. The Miners had a couple of good three pointers during the second quarter but the Mountaineers also had some good plays and they trailed by only three points. 25-22 was the score at half-time as the Miners just barely led the Mountaineers.

The second half of the game went a little more smoothly for Negaunee. The Miners had no problem making the shots when they took them. The thing that threw off the Miners was the zone that the Mountaineers were playing. Just as one team would score, the other would answer right back. MacKenzie Karki made an appearance during the third quarter to help the Miners take a stronger lead against the Mountaineers. Abby Nelson took an awesome three pointer for the Miners in the third followed by Clara Johnson making two three pointers in a row. 42-31 was the score at the end of the third as the Miners took a stronger lead against the Mountaineers. The shooting for the Miners didn’t fail them as they held onto their strong lead through out the fourth. Brady had mentioned that Abby Nelson was like a Swiss Army Knife for the Miners as she made more than just her three pointer.
