Negaunee, Michigan – December 16th, 2016 – The Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball Team hosted the Norway-Vulcan Knights tonight. Jesse Anderson and Brady Guilbault were there to bring you all the exciting action from the court, LIVE from the U.P. Propane Broadcast Booth on Sunny.FM.
The Norway-Vulcan Knights won the tip, but the Miners took back possession and scored the first points of the night to give the Miners the early lead. The Negaunee Miners had 6-0 lead against the Knights with 5:30 on the clock, but the Knights were able to make it 6-5 lead before the quarter was half over. The Negaunee Miners were able to widen their lead against the Knights throughout the rest of the quarter and led 14-6 at the end of the first.
The Negaunee Miners and the Norway-Vulcan Knights had a slow start to the second quarter and the Negaunee Miner were held scoreless until the 5 minute mark, were they had a 16-7 lead. The Norway-Vulcan Knights slowly gained on the Miners lead throughout the second quarter and only trailed 18-15 with 2 minutes left in the first half. The Negaunee Miners were able to maintain a 22-17 lead to end the first half of play on Sunny.FM.
The Norway-Vulcan Knights came out with a quick basket to start the third quarter and tightened the Miners lead to 22-19. Both teams played a back and forth battle and the with 5 minutes left in the third quarter the Miners 28-25 against the Knights. The Norway-Vulcan Knights were able to tie the score 30-30 with 2 minutes left in the third, but the Miners pulled out a 33-30 lead at the end of the quarter.
The Negaunee Miners quickly went up 3 points to start the fourth quarter and led 36-30 against the Knights. The Norway-Vulcan Knights rallied to stay in the game and only trailed 36-35 against the Miners with 6 minutes left in the game. The Norway-Vulcan Knights continued to rally and with 4 minutes left in the game led the Miners 43-38. The Negaunee Miners struggled against the Knights to regain the lead and lost the game 54-45 .
