Houghton, Michigan – Friday December 9th, 2016 – The Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball team traveled to Houghton, Michigan tonight to face the Houghton Gremlins. Brady Guilbault was there to bring you all the exciting action LIVE from the court, from the U.P. Propane Press Box on Sunny.FM.
The Negaunee Miners won the tip to start the game, but the Houghton Gremlins were first to score and take the early lead 2-0. The Negaunee Miners were on the board with a basket from Hailey Fezatt and tied the Gremlins 2-2. Clara Johnson scored two quick 3 point shots for the Negaunee Miners and they lead 8-4 with 5 minutes left in the quarter. The Houghton Gremlins took the lead 11-10 against the Negaunee Miners late in the first quarter, but the Negaunee Miners were able to score another basket and end the first quarter with a 12-11 lead.
The Negaunee Miners and the Houghton Gremlins were evenly matched to start the second quarter and were tied 14-14 in the first minute. The Houghton Gremlins regained the lead 19-16 against the Miners with 5 minutes left in the first half, with a long 3 point shot. The Negaunee Miners were able to score one more time in the second quarter, but the Gremlins led 19-18 to end the first half of play.
The Houghton Gremlins came out of the locker room ready to score and took a 21-18 lead early against the Negaunee Miners. The Negaunee Miners struggled against the Gremlins defense and trail 24-20 with the quarter half over. It was a defensive battle throughout the third quarter, but the Gremlins rallied at in the final two minutes of the quarter and led 35-25 against the Negaunee Miners on Sunny.FM.
The Negaunee Miners scored first in the fourth quarter and cut the Gremlins back down to single digits 35-27. The Houghton Gremlins and the Negaunee Miners played a back and forth game, but the Gremlins seemed to keep the edge on the Miners. The Houghton Gremlins would pull out the win tonight 48-46 against the Negaunee Miners.
