03/13/15 Ishpeming, Michigan – The Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball team was in Ishpeming, Michigan tonight to face the Ishpeming Hematites in the district finals. The Negaunee Miners won the tip, but the Ishpeming Hematites scored first with a 3 point shot. The Negaunee Miners were quick to answer back and with a bucket of their own and decreased the Hematites lead 3-2. A couple minutes went by in the ball game, before Dre Tuominen scored a 3 point shot and gave the Miners a 5-3 lead against the Hematites, with 5 minutes left in the first quarter. The Negaunee Miners finished the quarter in the lead 9-6 over the Ishpeming Hematites on Sunny.FM.
The Ishpeming Hematites started the second quarter strong and scored the first two baskets to take a 10-8 lead against the Negaunee Miners. Jay Lori answered back with a quick bucket and gave the Miners a lead of 11-10. The Negaunee Miners maintained the lead for the rest of the second quarter and finished 18-12 over the Ishpeming Hematites.
The Negaunee Miners started the third quarter with the first bucket and increased their lead 20-12. The Ishpeming Hematites were able to answer back in the next few minutes and went on a 6 point scoring run and decreased the Miners lead to 20-18, with 4 minutes left in the third quarter. With just under 2 minutes to go the Ishpeming Hematites took the lead from the Negaunee Miners 23-22. The Ishpeming Hematites ended the quarter leading 25-22 on Sunny.FM.
The Negaunee Miners came into the fourth quarter scoring a bucket and follow up with a 3 point shot from Trent Bell to give the Miners a 27-25 lead against the Ishpeming Hematites. The Negaunee Miners held their lead until the last seconds of the game, but the Ishpeming Hematites scored a quick basket to take the lead and the win 32-31.
