Negaunee, Michigan – Friday October 7th, 2016 – The Negaunee Miners Football team hosted their long time rival the Ishpeming Hematites tonight. Mark Evans and Gregg Nelson were there to bring you all the exciting action, LIVE from the U.P. Propane Press Box on Sunny.FM.
The Miners received the ball to start the game and their first drive was successful with a 5 yard touchdown run by Neal Violetta. The Miners took an early lead, 7-0 over the Hematites after the extra point was scored. The Ishpeming Hematites first drive started good, but the Negaunee Miners were able to hold on downs and regained possession with 7 minutes left in the quarter. The Negaunee Miners maintained a 7-0 lead over the Ishpeming Hematites to end the first quarter on Sunny.FM.
The Hematites found themselves on third down and short, to start the second quarter and were able to convert the drive into a touchdown. With a successful 2 point conversion the Hematites took the lead over the Miners 8-7. The Negaunee Miners struggled with their offense throughout the first half, but were able to stop the Ishpeming Hematite drive with a great tackle from Michael Pizziola. The Negaunee Miners capitalized on their next possession and scored another touchdown, run in by Neal Violetta. The Miners would take a 13-8 lead over the Hematites after a failed two point conversion attempt. Ishpeming was able to score a late touchdown after an interception thrown by the Miners, and took a 16-13 lead after successful 2 point conversion to end the first half of play.
The Negaunee Miners kicked off to the Ishpeming Hematites to start the third quarter of play. The Negaunee Miners played great defense and forced the Hematites to punt after 3 downs. The Negaunee Miners were able to score on their first drive of the quarter and took a 21-16 lead over the Hematites. The Negaunee Miners held the lead 21-16 at the end of the third quarter.
The Negaunee Miners started the fourth quarter with an interception catch from Anthony Hammermaster, and stole possession the Hematites. The Negaunee Miners took advantage of that drive and scored another touchdown and maintained a lead of 28-16, after the extra point. The Negaunee Miners were able to maintain a 28-16 lead to win the game and remain undefeated with 7-0 record.

The Negaunee Miners Football Team will travel to Marquette, Michigan next Friday October 14th, 2016 to face another long time rival the Marquette Redmen.
