Negaunee, Michigan Friday September 23rd, 2016 – The Negaunee Miners Football team hosted the Gwinn Modeltowners in their homecoming game. Mark Evans and Gregg Nelson were there to bring you all the exciting action, LIVE from the U.P. Propane Press Box on Sunny.FM.
The Negaunee Miners kicked off to the Gwinn Modeltowners to start the game and quickly stopped their first drive three and out forcing the Modeltowners to punt. The Negaunee Miners marched the football down the field and put 6 points on the board with a touchdown run by Brock Aho. The Negaunee Miners finished the first quarter strong and held a 7-0 against the Gwinn Modeltowners.
The Gwinn Modeltowners scored an immediately scored a touchdown and tightened the Negaunee Miners lead 7-6. The Gwinn Modeltowners played great defense and stopped the Miners next drive and the score remain 7-6. The Negaunee Miners recovered a fumble from the Modeltowners drive late in the second quarter, but were unable to convert the possession into points. The scored remained 7-6 to end the first half of play on Sunny.FM.
The Negaunee Miners received the ball to start the second half of play and Neal Violetta was able to carry it to the end zone and with just under 8 minutes left in the quarter they took a 13-6 lead against the Modeltowners. The Negaunee Miners scored again late in the third quarter with a carry from Eric Hurst to give them a 19-6 over the Gwinn Modeltowners to end the quarter.
The Gwinn Modeltowners opened the fourth quarter with the possession and scored a touchdown to trail the Miners 19-12. It was a battle between both teams for the remainder of the fourth quarter, but the Negaunee Miners were able to hold onto the lead against the Gwinn Modeltowners to win 19-12 Sunny.FM.
