Iron Mountain, Michigan September 16th, 2016 – The undefeated Negaunee Miners Football team traveled to Iron Mountain, Michigan tonight to face the undefeated Iron Mountain Mountaineers. Mark Evans and Gregg Nelson were there to bring you all the action LIVE from the U.P. Propane Press box on Sunny.FM.
The Negaunee Miners started the game receiving the ball and Eric Hurst carried the ball to the 43rd yard line, but went down 3-0. The Iron Mountain Mountaineers did not have possession long, before the ball was picked off by Negaunee Miners quarterback Brock Aho and possession went back to the Miners. The Miners and the Mountaineers ended the first quarter tied.
The Iron Mountain Mountaineers had possession of the ball to start the second quarter and were able to score a touchdown and with the extra point took the lead 7-0 against the Negaunee Miners. The Negaunee Miners’ Shane Ring was able to score a touchdown on the second series of the quarter, and after the extra point were tied 7-7 with the Iron Mountain Mountaineers to end the first half of play on Sunny.FM.
The Iron Mountain Mountaineers received the ball to start the second half of play and immediately fumbled the ball and the Miners were able to recover it. The Negaunee Miners took the opportunity and marched down the field and scored another 7 points to lead 14-7.
The Iron Mountain Mountaineers scored a 54 yard touchdown late in the third, but missed the extra point and trailed 14-13 against the Miners.
The Negaunee Miners started the fourth quarter with possession and Shane Ring scored a 13 yard touchdown and Brock Aho scored the 2 point conversion to give the Miners a 22-13 lead. Neal Violetta scored again for the Negaunee Miners late in the quarter and after the extra point, they led 29-13. The Negaunee Miners ended this game scoring another late touchdown and won 35-13 and remain undefeated, with a winning record of 4-0.
