01/08/15 Negaunee, Michigan – The Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball team hosted the Escanaba Eskimos tonight. Jesse Anderson was there to bring you all the exciting action LIVE on Sunny.FM.
The Escanaba Eskimos led the Negaunee Miners 5-4 in the early minutes of the first quarter. Jay Lori gave the Negaunee Miners their first lead of the game 6-5 against the Escanaba Eskimos with 4 minutes left in the quarter. Dre Tuominen drilled a 3 point shot at the buzzer to give the Negaunee Miners a 11-7 lead over the Escanaba Eskimos on Sunny.FM.
The Escanaba Eskimos started the second quarter on fire and quickly tied the score 11-11 against the Negaunee Miners. The Negaunee Miners held on to a small lead 14-13 with 4 minutes left in the half against the Escanaba Eskimos. Rob Loy gave the Negaunee Miners the lead 17-14, with old fashioned 3 point play against the Eskimos nearing the end of the second quarter. After a well fought battle the Negaunee Miners led 23-20 against the Escanaba Eskimos at the end of the first half of the game.
The Escanaba Eskimos were first to score in the third quarter with a 3 point shot to tie the Negaunee Miners 23-23. The lead was shared throughout the third quarter between the Negaunee Miners and the Escanaba Eskimos, and with 6 minutes left in the quarter the scored was tied 27-27. The Negaunee Miners ended the third quarter with their biggest lead of the night 36-30, with a buzzer beater from Dru Tuominen.
The Negaunee Miners started the fourth quarter slow, but found their fire against the Escanaba Eskimos and led 42-35 with 5 minutes left in the game. The Negaunee Miners took a double point lead 48-37 against the Eskimos with 3 minutes left in the game. The Escanaba Eskimos were able to score 2 quick 3 point shots and brought the score within 5 points 48-43, with just 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Negaunee Miners were able to hold their lead against the Eskimos tonight and won this game 57-50.
