NEGAUNEE, MI – 10/9/2014 – They’ve been the best two teams in the MPC for the past five years. In particular, the past two season have seen both teams finish with an undefeated regular season. In 2012, the Miners stole the Hematites’ chances of going undefeated in Negaunee by knocking off their rival 20-8. It was the same story in 2013, just with a different setting and outcome. The Hematites hadn’t forgotten their defeat from the year before, and took it out on the Miners to the tune of 28-24. That game wasn’t even that close because the Miners scored on a Hail Mary throw on the last play of the game.
While the Miners don’t come in undefeated this time around, they come in hungry to make a statement win against the top rated division-7 team in Michigan. Meanwhile, the Hematites are looking to keep their team-record win streak, a streak the Miners started by beating the Hematites in 2012, going in full force.
With all sorts of great things happening around this game, you’re going to want to be down at the field in Negaunee for all of the action! There’s a pre-broadcast tailgate party going on sponsored by Active Physical Therapy, where they’ll be serving food starting at 5:30pm! The meal costs $3 for a hotdog, chips, and water and all proceeds go to the Negaunee Booster Club!
After that, the broadcast will begin on Sunny.FM at 6:30pm. Then, the big game. The 4-2 Negaunee Miners will play host to the 6-0 Ishpeming Hematites at 7pm!
For the Miners to win, they’ll have to play their game and play it disciplined. They cannot fumble the ball, something they’ve struggled with at times this season. They also need to avoid getting penalized. The Miners were penalized six times in their win against Norway, and two of those wiped out runs of 30+ yards. Negaunee will need plays like those to stand if they want to knock off the Hematites. Defensively, the Miners have to stop quarterback Ozzy Corp. Corp has been lighting up teams this year, and will look to keep his magical season going on Friday.
Be sure to tune in this Friday Night for Football Night in Negaunee! Miners. Hematites. Seven o’clock, right here on SunnyFM!
