Negaunee, Michigan Wednesday February 17th, 2016 – The Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball team hosted the Gladstone Braves tonight. Jesse Anderson and Brady Guilbault were there for all the exciting action, LIVE from the U.P. Propane Broadcast Booth on Sunny.FM.
The Negaunee Miners and the Gladstone Braves had a slow start to the game, but Aleda Johnson scored the first points of the game for the Negaunee Miners to give them the early lead 3-0. The Negaunee Miners held the Braves to 0 points until the 4 1/2 minutes mark of the quarter, when the Braves put their first points on the board and trailed 6-2. The remainder of the first quarter was slowly played, but the Negaunee Miners emerged with the lead 8-5.
The Gladstone Braves were first to score in the second quarter and trailed 8-7 to the Negaunee Miners. The second quarter started slow for both team, but with the quarter half over the Gladstone Braves regained the lead from the Negaunee Miners 11-10. The Negaunee Miners took back the lead 14-11 in the final 2 minutes of the half and remained in the lead 16-15 to end the second quarter.
Aleda Johnson scored the first basket in the third quarter to give the Miners an early 18-15 lead over the Gladstone Braves on Sunny.FM. The Negaunee Miners went on a roll halfway through the quarter and broadened their lead to 23-17. The Negaunee Miners held onto a 36-28 lead to end the third quarter against the Gladstone Braves.
The Gladstone Braves slowly started to gain on the Miners lead to start the fourth quarter and trailed 39-34 with the first 2 minutes played. The Negaunee Miners had a slow start in the fourth quarter, but held the lead 39-38 with 4 minutes left to play in the game. The final 2 minutes of the game was close and the crowd was biting their nails, but the Negaunee Miners fell 46-45 against the Gladstone Braves.
The Gladstone Braves defeated the Negaunee Miners (46-45) on Sunny.FM.
The Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball team will travel to Marquette, Michigan tomorrow February 18th, 2016 to take on the Marquette Redmen.
