Ishpeming, Michigan February 12th, 2016 – The Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball traveled to Ishpeming, Michigan tonight to take on the Ishpeming Hematites. Jesse Anderson and Brady Guilbault were there to bring you all the exciting rivalry action LIVE from the U.P. Propane Broadcast Booth.
The Ishpeming Hematites won the tip, but the Miners immediately stole the ball. The Miners maintained possession for almost the first minute of the game, but lost the ball to the Hematites. The Hematites fouled and made both free throw shots to take the lead 2-0. The Negaunee Miners put their first points on the board with 5 minutes left in the quarter and trailed 4-2 against the Hematites. The Negaunee Miners took their first lead of the night 5-4 when Dre Tuominen scored a three point shot, with 2 1/2 minutes left in the quarter. The Negaunee Miners maintained the lead 14-8 against the Ishpeming Hematites to end the first quarter on Sunny.FM.
The Ishpeming Hematites were first to score in the second quarter and cut into the Miners lead to trail 14-11. The first half of the second quarter was a defensive battle, but the Miners maintained the lead 16-11. The Negaunee Miners held unto the lead to end the second quarter 20-17 against the Ishpeming Hematites.
The Negaunee Miners started the third quarter scoring a free throw shot and making an old fashion 3 point play to take a 24-19 lead early. Both teams played aggressive defense in the first half of the quarter, but the Miners were able to keep the lead 28-22. The Negaunee Miners were able to broaden their lead at the end of third quarter 38-29 against the Ishpeming Hematites.
The Ishpeming Hematites started the fourth quarter scoring a basket to trail the Miners 38-31. The Negaunee Miners kept up the good fight and maintained the lead 46-39 with 4 minutes left in the game. The Ishpeming Hematites started to nip at the Miners heels to make it a one possession score 46-43, with 3 minutes left in the game. The Negaunee Miners emerged the victors tonight with a score of 53-47 against the Ishpeming Hematites. The Negaunee Miners improved their undefeated record to 15-0.
